As a fun little project, and because I love tiny PC’s, I wanted to purchase the Beelink Mini S, and try it out for a variety of projects. I usually stick with Levono Thinkcentre Tiny PC’s, but in this case I wanted to venture into trying a low cost option, and Beelink has several inexpensive options. I purchased mine from Amazon in Canada, and cost me $209, and it was delivered in two days.

I plan to do a series of articles surrounding this machine, with focus on using it for the following.

- Home and Office use with Windows 11
- Linux use with Ubuntu
- Using it as a tiny web server for home
- And more

Initial Startup and Configuration

This PC came preloaded with Windows 11 Pro. I booted the PC for the first time, and started the Windows 11 Out-of-Box setup, which only took 8 minutes.

Boot Time

I decided to shutdown, and run a timer to see how long it took to boot to the login screen, which was roughly 12 seconds.

Performance

WebGL Aquarium Benchmarks
- 500 fish – 60 fps
- 1000 fish – 60 fps
- 5000 fish – 39 fps
- 10000 fish – 25 fps
- 15000 fish – 20 fps
- 20000 fish – 16 fps
- 25000 fish – 13 fps

YouTube Playback

- 1080 playback is great without issue
- 4k playback is good, with 23 dropped frames out of 10444

Final Thoughts

Overall, this mini PC is very affordable, and for the cost, it performs well for what it is. I’m looking forward to trying it with different operating systems, and also as a home web server. More to come on that in future articles.
