About Me

Professionally

I started my career in Ontario over 25 years ago in the IT and electronics industry, owning two sole proprietor businesses in Ontario and Alberta. I joined the Canadian Forces in 2001 and experienced the world in a whole new way. After several years of service and being stationed at multiple bases across Canada, I transitioned out of army life and back into IT and telecommunications in Calgary, Alberta.

I have been honored to receive the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award four times, in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, recognizing my contributions to the tech community.

Today, I am an IT and cybersecurity professional specializing in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity research, penetration testing, and managed IT services. I serve as the Vice President of Technology for a Managed Service Provider, where I oversee cybersecurity strategy, IT support, and compliance. I am also actively involved in CISO-level security planning, ensuring businesses stay protected against evolving threats.

My Personal Motto

Hobbies

I am also an avid outdoor primitive survivalist, mountaineer, and rock climber, having taught over 10,000 people in the rock climbing industry throughout my lifetime. I am nationally certified as a rock climbing instructor and have taught at all Calgary Climbing Centre locations, Vivo for Healthier Generations, and through City of Calgary programs. I am also a long-time member of the Alpine Club of Canada and hold a CEC national license for climbing competitions, where I actively participate and enjoy competing.

Beyond climbing and mountaineering, I have a lifelong passion for the outdoors, backcountry travel, and wilderness survival skills — interests that began in my teenage years and were strengthened during my military training. Over the years, I’ve also enjoyed teaching others essential outdoor and survival skills.

I’m also passionate about hands-on technical work, including vehicle mechanics, residential electrical projects, and home construction. Maintaining my off-road vehicle and completing renovation projects has always been something I find both rewarding and enjoyable.

In recent years, this has expanded into overlanding and off-road exploration, where I share my adventures through Wildrove Adventures, a family-focused off-road and camping initiative I run with my wife and son. We document our trail runs, campsites, gear setups, and weekend explorations throughout Alberta and the Rocky Mountain region. You can follow our adventures here:
