Now, it goes without saying; you need a full time, up to date anti-malware software on your system. There are a lot of good anti-malware choices out there, but none of them are perfect.

This is where Virustotal comes in. Their free online scanner is intended to scan one file that you submit, and it scans the file with over 70 different anti-malware products. So, when you download something questionable, and you just want to be sure, give Virustotal.com a try.

From virustotal.com, select “Choose file”.

Locate the file you want to scan, then select open.

Once the scan is complete, you will see the scan results. In this case, 46 anti-malware products detected malware in the file. In this case because malware was detected in the file, I would simply delete the file from my system.

This is a great way to have extra confidence with questionable files.
